A lot of people I know, including myself, are about to start their desk job careers. Once I came to the realization that I will be spending most of my days at a desk for the foreseeable future, I started looking up ways to spice up my desk space for my future office. Here are some of my favorites:

FOR JOTTING THINGS DOWN

Just as useful as they are cute. Just pop these puppies in a cute little pot or opaque jar and no one will know the difference! The size and shape of these pens makes them difficult to lose and ensures that you always have spare pens around. Even better, you’ll definitely be the only one in the office with this adorable pen set, so you can easily tell if there’s a pen thief in the company!

Because regular sticky notes just don’t catch anyone’s attention around the office anymore! Also, if you’re the office prankster, this device is perfect for wallpapering someone’s cubicle or wrapping up their desktop.

This one is a little on the pricier side at $28, but who doesn’t need scrap paper from time to time? Plus, this device is easy to refill! All you have to do is go to your nearest office supply store and buy a blank receipt roll.

MORE STORAGE SPACE, PLEASE

Buying the clear, plastic filing cabinets from Walmart to increase your beneath-the-desk storage space is a thing of the past. If you can afford it, spend a little extra cash on an adorable, retro three-drawer filing cabinet. This type from The Container Store features drawer dividers and a lock to secure your important documents and belongings.

Staying organized is key to productivity in the workplace, so buying desk dividers and organizers is always a great investment! This lovely glass organizer is less than $20 at Target. Plus, using glass or clear organizers, as opposed to opaque ones, is a fabulous way to make your desk look a bit larger than it really is.

These under the desk hooks allow you to hang your purse, headphones, keys, etc., keeping your work space clutter-free! The wood finish gives them a really neat, rustic vibe; however, if you’re searching for more of a modern look, there are plenty of metallic and black under-the-desk hooks on Amazon.

TO IMPROVE YOUR MOOD

Everyone working a 9 to 5 in a cubicle needs a reminder that there’s a whole world beyond their IKEA desk. Even if you have a black thumb, buy one of these adorable caterpillar vases and put some fake flowers in them! They will undoubtedly bring some much-needed color to your desk.

Not only are cacti adorable (and very on-trend right now), but essential oils are great for stress relief. They are very low maintenance as far as water-based devices go and many suggest they even increase productivity!

Strings of lights always keep me zen. These thin, copper lights don’t take up a lot of space, so they are a great, home-y accent to a desk area without cluttering up the space! Plus, at about $8, you can always buy them, test them out at your office space and give them to a friend or take them home if they don’t work out!

PRACTI-COOL

This is not your standard time telling device. This super sleek clock displays the time as text on an LED screen. At only 8x8” it’s the perfect size for your desk, but it does have a slight (or maybe not-so-slight) downfall: it only gives you about 10 minutes within the actual time. So, if you value punctuality, make sure to keep your phone or an analog clock nearby.

This lamp is such a great way to make your desk feel comfortable and home-y, especially if you work in an office with horrible florescent lights. Also, it comes in gold, brass/bronze, chrome and satin nickel, so you have a lot of options and should be able to find a metallic shade that fits your desk vibe.

Standing desks have dramatically increased in popularity throughout the past few years, as the health detriments associated with desk jobs have come to light. Purchasing a desk/laptop riser and keeping yourself on a fairly regulated standing/sitting schedule is a great way to mitigate these health risks. This desk riser is adjustable to almost any height and is very modern. It’s also fairly easy to store under your desk just in case you need the extra space.

Unless you’re an executive with a private office, you probably won’t be able to incorporate all of these cool items into your motif, but there are plenty of great things to pick and choose from on this list! If you have any must-have office supplies or décor items that I neglected to include, comment links to them below!
